This is only partially accurate. It may be true on a national basis, but steam prices (for example) are set acording to the country you are connecting and paying from. At my warehouse I have set the price for e-commerce to 999. Now the retailers sell my computers in all cities for 999.
e.g. A customer from New York buys a product from Amazon at the same price as another customer from San Francisco who buys the same product from Amazon. In other words, Amazon only sets one price for each product for all cities.
If we go deeper, internet companies have the techonolgy to offer customer individual pricing with info from cookies and other data. so the e-commerce same price for everyone could have been true 10 years ago, or in small companies now, but no for big tech.
