Company CEO focus Suggestion

Post by baz »

What I’ve noted is that there’s no land ownership, Media, lumber, heavy industry, mining resource or oil focussed companies. Is there a reason behind this? For example in real life you have Bhp Billiton and Rio Tinto which are huge mining resource companies. BP and Shell are huge oil based companies, yes they do energy resources too but that’s not in the CAP series. The Mittal brothers are huge owners in steel and own a vast steel empire. Georgia Pacific are a lumber specialist company ( own forests, saw mills produce paper). In china there are lots of Manufacturing( industrial) companies that sell to retailers only ie The company that own the rights to the product and manufacture the product such as Proview that own the trademark of the Apple Ipad. In fact it looks like one of the tech based firms has created an industrial unit, So I guess that is occurring but under tech focussed rather than manufacturing focused.

Conclusions of the real world company focus to the game.
Diversified companies Virgin, Tata etc. And that’s matched in the game.
Stock based companies Berkshire Hathaway etc. Currently waiting for the stock focused companies in CAPLAB to invest outside of their own companies.
Real estate focused companies Land Securities Group plc, matched in the game.
Tech focussed companies Proview, matched in the game.
Retail focused companies M & S, Apple, matched in the game.
Manufacturing companies would probably be diversified and/or tech companies, so I think that’s matched in the game

What we don’t have that could bring a good check and balance to the game.
Land purchasing and ownership companies such as British land, Theres no focus in the game, would it be possible? I think it would give a check and balance to the game. It would give diversified and real estate focused companies a counter balance.
Lumber companies, no focus in the game. It would use forests, saw mills and create paper and lumber, giving diversified companies competition in this market.
Mining resource companies, This again would bring a checks and balance to the game especially against diversified and tech ( Manufacturing ) companies. Also my experience within this area from CAP to CAPLAB is it’s not very profitable but the real world it is. Can this be changed as others have commented the same, you can’t just be a resource company. If you add oil and steel I’ve proved that it can work but not without. You can change the price for it to work but then it decreases your profits in other areas of your business.
Heavy industry focus would be a great check and balance, it would give a massive check and balance to diversified and tech companies. In Heavy industry I mean Steel , silicon other semi products. Perhaps there isn’t enough to support such a focus in CAPLAB.
Oil focused companies would bring a counter balance to diversified companies but again it maybe not worth an individual focus. Although the stock side would be very interesting due to the price the would generate.
Electronics and communication, these two focuses continue to get closer and closer together, such as Apple for example or Samsung, Again it would give a massive counter to diversified and tech companies.
Media Focus, It would be great to see again a media focused company, It would could create a monopoly but again it would be countered by diversified companies and government owned.
I like to highlight the things I mention above to see what Enlights take is,

My own personal thoughts are that with some more focused based companies, you bring further checks and balances to the other focused based companies, whilst opening the game world to lots of different business to form a relationship with and another reason why you’d want to buy them on the stock exchange. It would also stop and create monopolies occurring and create a very varied business simulator/game.

Looking forward to your views and thoughts David as ever.

I think this is an interesting write-up and it will be good to see more discussions on this.

Could you think of a way to post an article on CapLab wiki for above?

I'll have a think of something, do you want it along the lines of how you can play the game or what the game includes?

For example, You can play different coporate stratergys like been a tech focussed company like Proview that make the IPAD for Apple.
or Play caplab like you would in real life and be the next tech focussed company that makes tech for a company like Apple or even better be a company like Apple and buy tech to become the next biggest electronic company in the world.

Regarding the "What we don’t have that could bring a good check and balance to the game" bit, are we likely to see any of these implemented in the game, out of interest?
