What's the point of donating to other parties than mine?

Do I get a bonus or "influence" when I donate to those parties other than mine? I think a lot of political donation has certain quid-pro-quo behind the exchange. Right now the only usage I can come up is the enemy of my enemy is my friend strategy where you want to quickly pull down the top rating competitor, donate to the 3rd place runner party (just make sure not too much and you can still win over).

Did I miss something? Or should the election and party mechanism need more options (like influence to certain policy?)

I don't have an answer for you, but I was wondering the exact same thing. At first I wasn't sure if I could just hop into an existing party and if I donated enough take over it or just get some/all the perks of having helped get someone in power. Anyone have any answers for us?

i donated once a year $100.000.000.000 to an existing party for 10 Years in a row (yes i use cheat engine, but only for beta-testing, in the "standard/stable release i play without cheats" ).

I did not had the feeling i get any influence, or any other bonus....

Maybe David can give us some information.

Yeah I've never understood the purpose or how to join an existing party.
