In the CEO/COO screen the check mark for R&D projects doesn't change until you press another option after.
I usually shut off all three options, training, R&D and advertising.
When you press the check mark on R&D to shut it off the check mark stays, then when I press the advertising check mark both checks disappear.
I'm assuming the option is selected but the check mark doesn't visually update properly.
