It was intended. IRL, I haven't heard of smartphones until the iphone.

It is intended as far as i know. It is to represent some realism in when those products/techs became available in real life.

Hi David

A number of products are unavailable to research until after 2000. These include tablet computers, smart phones and portable media players.

Is this a bug or intended? (If intended, some sort of notice should be added)
