This is interesting. Although there's a possible explanation, during merger, under certain conditions, stock assets might get "sold" to prevent cross holding situation (an accounting nightmare). You might check the stock assets in both your company and the subsidiary before and after merger, and see if this is the case, where some stock assets being converted to cash.
