The Inflation rate is calculated from the Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) which is compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and is based upon a 1982 Base of 100. To view the actual Consumer Price Index data that this inflation data is calculated from, go to the Historical CPI table.

Calculate the total percentage of price inflation between two dates:

Try entering the date range from Jan 1941 to Jan 1990 on the above page, and you will get:
"Total inflation from January 1941 to January 1990 is 803.55%"
