I disagree with the 'phasing out' idea. Rather it should be 'substitute goods'
As this is a simulation game, the effect a substitute good would have on the industry should depend on the investment into the product.
The game world should not immediately emulate the real world.
Eg -Suppose Apple was never bailed out by Adobe in the 90s and went backrupt, would tablets be as popular as they are (Or had been invented so soon)?
Laptops will never completely disappear even with tablets due to their limitations, so 'phasing out' will never completely happen (Same with PCs). Smart phones will never completely phase out mobile phones (Although they may get close)
Eg- Suppose VCR technology had somehow advanced to another level rather than being abandoned in favor of DVDs, then DVDs may never had taken off
I really think that if enough research goes into a particular product, it may be able to block or severely disrupt the emergence of another
(Eg- Laserdisc technology took off, lost out to VHS and was finally killed by VCD)
(Eg- Will electric cars completely phase out combustion based cars)
Just my thoughts. But great work in continuing to develop capitalism!! So far though it seems that there is alot of heavy emphasis on electronic goods. Will you be adding any more retail products from other sectors?

Re: New Product Images
Here is an expanded description of the new features.
Existing products will be phased out or substituted by new products. Here are a few examples:
• Mobile phones will be phased out camera phones
• When smart phones are introduced to the market, the majority of the original demand for camera phones will transit to smart phones. But camera phones will not be completely phased out, there will still be consistently small amounts of demand for it.
• Cameras (traditional optical cameras) will be phased out by digital cameras.
• Sales of notebook computers will be negatively affected by increasing popularity of tablet computers. Though, tablet computers will not completely replace notebook computers, as notebook computers will continue to evolve technologically and improve their value propositions and continue to have decent demands in the market.
• Now it will take longer to invent new products. Tech-based companies do have an advantage here and are more likely to achieve technology breakthroughs surpassing original expectations.

Re: New Product Images
I noticed there were a few missing items... are they really going to be taken out in the new version or were they just left off by accident (Eg. Fruit Snacks and Video Recorder)? Maybe I have an old version of Capitalism II... but there were at least a couple other items that weren't highlighted that are new: Tissues, Washing Powder, and Cereal Bar...
I like the new additions, I look forward to being able to use the improvements.

Excellent screenshots! I only hope I never have to pay 9,870,334$ for a detergent in my lifetime...David wrote:The following screenshots of the product summary report show traditional cameras phased out by digital cameras.
