I have always thought the game was missing something by not including divisions. I think you could implement simply by having a new building called Division headquarters that would require a player assigned name. Then in each firm, a combo box that would list all of the divisions set up by the player. There would be a default 'corporate' division for new firms and for players that don't use the feature. Putting the division headquarters up for sale would offer the assigned firms in total for sale.
Reporting in the divisional headquarters would reflect the consolidated total of the assigned firms.
I often use loss leading factories for things like dyestuff and I would like to better understand the impact that loss has on a subset of other factories using the material. For cars, my usual setup is 1 store, 1 body manufacturer, and 3 car plants. 1 plant is usually underutilized so looking at the division in total is a much better indicator of performance.
