Disasters, Monsters and Events

Hi!

I'd like to script/mod Events somewhat like in the Goal framework but more widely applied.

Ideally I would be able to select some set of requirements (ie. date, number of items, types of buildings nearby, pollution) and then enable a series of events (ie. product locks, population loss, change in building image).
A random percentage variable would also be handy.

The end-goal being to simulate the effects of disaster (ie fire, flood, earthquake, pestilence, disease) or 'monster' (ie. Kaiju monster, Invading Aliens, Tornado).

If this also enabled one to create corporate/government 'controlled' assets like fire engines, tanks or battleships as products I would not be remiss.
(ie. using the eventing framework to choose the next place the fire engine chooses to go)

Cheers!

I do think there should be a greater variety of potential random disasters but I think they should be more realistic and not the 'Sim City' types.

For example:

- Factory/Retail/Farm/etc workers go on strike at X - production stops for Y days.
- Disease outbreak in livestock population - x heads of cattle culled (slows meat production temporarily).
- Flood/Mold/bug infestation/etc causes apartment/commercial building to be temporarily unoccupied (lose all rent for x days + repair costs).
- (In cities with high crime/low police coverage) - riots break out, buildings damaged randomly with x cost. Also, high crime should cause the regular retail looting event to happen more often.

I fully agree with your suggestions for making disasters more grounded and realistic.
This is an excellent idea and would fit Capitalism Lab’s style perfectly.

I would also suggest giving companies the option to purchase disaster insurance or set up contingency funds to reduce financial losses from strikes, accidents, or disasters.

This would add realism and provide players with additional risk management strategies and long-term stability tools.

Yes, I agree that insurance would be a good idea. It could be a new way to expand the insurance company - selling insurance to other corporations in case something bad happens to them.
