Node based factory layout ?

I sometimes find the factory layout structure limiting, if you are making a 3 input product and want to have 3 mfg stations you need to double up on one of the inputs.
I understand changing the 9 box structure of factories would be a major undertaking, but if we could lay them out as different nodes that can be dragged and rearranged, I think it would lead to a far more flexible factory setup.

the picture below just illustrates how the nodes could be re arranged and connected.

Well, I like your picture, but I feel obligated to say you need a better example, because we can do what you depicted with the current system. What benefits would your system have over the current system? Your proposal must have it's own limits too, how do they compare?

I hope that reads as encouragement rather than dis-! :D
