patch 2.3.09B windows 8 capability issue

I've tried to patch to 2.3.09B to fix that same group2.cpp Line 740 error. And it works fine on my windows 7 computer.

But when I tried to patch 2.3.09B to my laptop running windows 8, it just shows the title screen and the instant entering the main screen, it jumps right back out. Leaving a program corpse in the memory. When I tried to run it again, it generates another corpse again and again. The original 2.3.08 version works fine.

Please try logging in as an administrator on Windows 8 prior to applying the patch and see if it will help.

Nope, it doesn't help. And this laptop only has 1 administrator user. I also try to execute the program as administrator and it still has the same problem.

I reinstall the 2.3.08 and it works fine, so it must have something to do with the patch.

PS. the program corpse left behind is the CapStart.exe launcher, not the CapMain.exe.

Please try downloading and applying this v2.3.09B patch: http://www.capitalismlab.com/capserver/ ... 9B-EXE.zip

It is a smaller patch file for users who have already installed v2.3.08, which is your case.

Thanks for the help. Although I eventually figured out a way to make the original patch work.

I checked the CapMain.exe properties -> compatibility, and then used 3 additional settings

1. set Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows 7
2. set Disable display scaling on high DPI settings
3. Run this program as an administrator

It finally works. Although the 2.3.08 version works fine without these settings, so I guess there is something to do with my new laptop capable of very high resolution, somehow causing the problem with patch 2.3.09B.

Just another update.

The patch 2.3.09B conflicts with Avast! antivirus. If you have to use Avast, you can add the new 2.3.09B CapMain.exe into exception to prevent Avast checking it.
