Having the ability to change the human player company name after a merger

I don't see any benefit to changing the name of a subsidiary since the owner could sell stake etc, but being able to change the name and incorporate the parent company name and an acquire company name I think would be a nice feature. Not essential but not something I would think players would mind having.

To me it will help in the creation of a story if the player so desired.

That would be interesting as there are costs associated with changing a company name.

1) The corporate report is already quite crowded. One the few places where the new button can be placed is the space below the [Management Policy] button as shown in the attached screenshot. Do you think it is the right place?

That would be a good spot. Some others may have a better idea on costs but I would say since the impact and costs with changing the name would be different depending on the size of the company a % of the companies revenue, market cap, net worth etc might be a good idea.

Maybe 1% of the company's projected revenue that year or .5% of that projected revenue.

It should be on Financial actions screen between Set dividend and Set up a new subsidiary.

Rebranding should be penalized by a percent of brand rating but this penalty should be lowered by additional cost.

For example.
Base penalty 50% of brand rating
Lower penalty to 40% costs 10% of last year ad budget
Lower penalty to 10% costs 40% of last year ad budget
Penalty less than 10% is not possible.

Money spent on rebranding should not disappear. It should be split evenly between all media firms and repaid to them during the whole next year.

But to be honest I see this idea as artificial since unlike real world there are no possible gains attached to it.

I don't think there should be any affect on the branding unless they are using the corporate brand strategy since otherwise the products would have their own brand but just a fee would be simpler to implement.

I think this would be good for story telling where if my company acquired say Power Company changing my company to WMGP Power Co would be pretty cool. This happens in the real world sometimes and I think it would be just a nicety......I do have posts titled Missing Features for the DLC which aren't as "artificial".

I agree we should be able to change the name after a merger.

I think from a cost stand point it should be based on the number of firms under the company's management. Basically the cost would be the cost to rebrand everything at those locations. If the company had a corporate brand then that brand should definitely be cut in at least half.

This would be a good idea if we could change the names. But of course there must be costs, as you would have to change al lot of things IRL. And of course you should lose some brand rating.
