If you build an R&D place and assign all 9 to research a single thing, can you build a second one and research the same thing? In other words would they stack when the research is finished or will one just wash out the other?

I normally just link 3 up for a building but I'm going to try a game where I focus on being the best at one product and one product only so I'd only need to research that product and the other elements used to make that product. But by being VERY fast in research will give me a huge competitive edge.

There is no stacking effects for running R&D projects using separate R&D teams. In other words, the maximum effect can be achieved is through using a team with 9 connected R&D units.
