I've connected an advertisement unit to the Sales of Leather to increase brand. Is this even possible? It doesn't seem to increase brand for me.

Only consumer products in the game have brand ratings. Leather is not a consumer product.

Would be cool to have that feature I guess. I mean all whole-sale trade isn't of the same quality. I had a plan to disrupt my competitors value chain by controlling the manufacturing of leather, cotton etc. by having the best out there. Turns out, that increasing quality on farms is incredibly slow, and as there's no RnD or Brand to increase overall score, the whole plan just doesn't work. Seems like a very plausible thing it would happen in real life.

Any other way I can increase the quality of leather apart from just waiting?

A farm with higher level units should produce higher quality quality. You may hire a COO with expertise in farming and/or conduct intensive training from your Headquarters to increase your farm units levels more rapidly.
