Is General Store too much?

I checked the website to see the introduction about the new type store "General Store" which aimed good to help expand the retail business with low costs. However, such stores kill some fun of the game play if I just line up along a crowded street with many General Stores selling different stuff. Then why I need to set up other stores that will need greater space and more costs, then the city will be full of general stores...with all the same style...
