In game - if an opponent AI player has a Competence in some product class than he has 70% bonus in research that product class so it is imposible to conquer in reserch of the product with this Ai Player. For exampe AI player has competence in Watch products = 90, so he will have 50-70% higher research rate of Watch products than Human Player. AI will have research rate ~ 30->217 and player with CEO with R&D research competence = 90 will have research rate ~ 30->137. So it is imposible to compete in product quality with this AI player.
I think in game should be some posibility to do something to compete in research rate. For example LOWER research rate generated by bonus in Competence, in order that reserch rate at level of competence of 90-100 to be ~ equal to AI and Player.

You may set "AI Expertise Level" to none to disable AI advantages in research.

Isn't there a "make-up" in terms of researching something that someone already has a high level in ? eg. If AI has 2000 research level and I have 30, if I research the product I can get it to 2000 with 2-3 years tops, whereas if he had 135, my research of 2-3 years would yield around 130-150. By going for 5 year research, you should be able to eventually outstrip him (as AI will not research the same product constantly) and the lead will keep flipping back and forth until you finally get ahead. Buying tech from second placed guy and then researching quickly can also get you close enough to compete.
As you both progress, the tech difference between the two of you will diminish in importance, meaning that concern will become irrelevant. eg. If you have 30 tech and he has 100 tech, he wins. If you have 350 tech and he has 400 tech, that tech concern difference becomes smaller, and then when you have 14,700 and he has 15,000, its largely irrelevant.

Isn't there an option somewhere to change only Ai's tech reseearch rate but not how AI thinks generally, I mean that AI to remain smart but have only equal to player research rate? That options that you displayed in image have this effect?
