The telecom market share is based on revenues rather than combined market share of each city. (I am not sure about internet and software as I still need to test them out)
This is shown when you enter the market late and need to gain market share by lowering prices extremely low. For example if you put the price @ 0.10$, even though you can easily gain 50% share within few years losing money, your market share would still be based on revenues like 1%. however in reality it should be based on combined market share of each city (subscribers/total internet users in the world)

The definition of Market Share from investopedia.com:
https://www.investopedia.com/terms/m/marketshare.asp
What Is Market Share?
Market share is the percent of total sales in an industry generated by a particular company. Market share is calculated by taking the company's sales over the period and dividing it by the total sales of the industry over the same period. This metric is used to give a general idea of the size of a company in relation to its market and its competitors. The market leader in an industry is the company with the largest market share.
According to the above definition, the way market shares are calculated in the game should be correct.

If you try it for yourselves it doesn't make sense the way they are in game however.
In reality market share is not based on price.
Companies which offer subscription based models are compared on their subscriber amount and not on the total revenue generated.
Check the telecoms and make a telecom in every city (7 cities) with the lowest amount of subscription price.
After some time if you go on each telecom individually you will see the market share rising. and you might even have 50% on each telecom. However when you go on total market share, even though you have 50% of each city, you have 3-10% or so market share..
See examples below:
Touch Base is over 50% in 6 out of 7 cities. If you count all the market shares it adds up to 379.37 out of a maximum of 700 which is equivalent 54.19% average between 7 cities. However it is showing as 3.44% in 3rd place.
Hyper Tower has 164.62 from a max of 700 which is equivalent to 23.51% average between 7 cities. However it is showing as 51.95% dominance between 7 cities.
Lastly, Energy Enhanced has a 142.21 market share of a max of 700, which means an average of 20.31%, however it is showing as 42.08% dominance.
It should be Touch base 1st place 54.19%, Hyper tower in second place with 23.51%, Energy Enhanced in 3rd place with 20.31% and the remaining goes to the diversified/smaller competitors.
