I'd like to add energy management for towns, factory, residential, etc. Yes i know it would be a great redesign of the framework to manage energy supply, production, costs ... But energy is a good too.
I saw a mod that allow creation of solar pannel, maybe it can be a need to setup solar factory that provide cheap and clean electricity.
Factories with missing power will reduce their efficiency, towns without power will collapse, etc...
Coal power production would generate more pollution.
Towns with high % of house applicances, computers, etc will need more power (is see the hard maths to code here héhé)
After al lthere are telecom company, and media companies, so energy companies is not strange for me
Technology level would increate ratio of productivity incrasing margin of production, using less and less coal or gaz, producing more with wind or sun, etc

I would recommend that you create a poll for your suggestion to gauge the community's interest in it. There would be a higher chance that the dev team will implement it if the interest level is high.
