When AI holds 50% of your company's shares, is it the end?

Post by counting »

I know since the old day of CapII, there's a way of avoiding being kicked out when an AI corporation is very close to hold more than 50% of your company's shares - reverse buying 50% AI corporation's share using your "personal fund", thus it becomes your personal company, and your own company becomes its subsidiaries. You can hold your own company indirectly, and you won't get kicked out.

The interesting thing is back in CapII, you can reverse merger using this AI holding company with your own company if this AI owns more than 75% of your own company, but this will cause a crash immediately (you will be able to quickly glance that you become the AI company's CEO, and your own company disappears, before it crashes). ANd someone in the Chinese forum said he was able to do the same trick in an older CapLab version, and successfully reverse merger his own company with personal holding corporation. So I did a test in current CapLab version (2.6.34), and the result shows that you can no longer reverse merger since the merger button no long appears, along with the crash bug itself. And everything seems alright.

However, it makes me think, what if I sell all my personal shares to this AI company again? Will I get kicked out due to no "indirect holding"? The answer surprise me, unlike in CapII you immediately lose the game when holds less than 50% of the AI company, in current version (2.6.34) CapLab it only shows a warning, and you can keep playing like a normal game like a COO to an AI company. I even did a further test, using my "own company" to buy 75% of this AI company again, thus this no-longer-mine own company has mutual share holding with the AI company. It becomes so buzzard that although I can still build normally, but I am completely locked out of stock trades for these two companies, since I am forbid to buy either of them.

I'm not sure if this is intentional, or just a way to let players keep "existing" even if AI holds more than 50% of your company's share. And I need to say I don't feel this situation constituents a bug, and from what I can tell, this doesn't affect normal game play either, and is actually quite logical and consistence to what would happen in real world. Although it makes me wonder how does the game calculate the asset value with mutual shareholding companies? It's a very difficult and no-definite answer problem in accounting practices.
