framework and mechanics

Post by baz »

David, for Ideas that I want to work on more, I like to try and work on framework and mechanics

What I mean by framework is for example
Who owns the company
Whats it's purpose
What it does
The bonuses it could offer
The population by % that it employs

Mechanics is for example

profit = investment - income ect

Is there anything you can mail me or tell me that will help to introduce an idea?
Ie have the programmers or Trevor come up with parameter as to what can and can't be acheived or are they very open to anything?
For example airports, you've seen the post on the beta and on general but how or what do you need to take it forward. A verbal comment on it's use or a more indepth use of how it works in the game or the calculations ( Mechanics as I call it) and the framework ( as I call it ) behind the idea.
It would be helpfull for me but also so I can advice others that have an idea that they want. Are the programmers willing to incorporate something that may require lots of programming or is it more , spreadsheet incorporation? IE things with math calculations with simple programming
for example and airport exists, the menu exists so all you need is the calculations and the text in the field. Whilst internet shopping dosen't exist a building would be required, the calculations would be needed the cpu would need to be programmed, so lots of work would be required.
Again hope this makes sense and look forward to your answers as ever.

I think what you and other users are discussing on the general forum is fine. In game development, only a small percentage of ideas eventually get implemented due to the complexity of game design and development. This also explains why it took a long time for us to come up with the new features for Cap Lab as it is now -- we internally evaluated and discarded a good number of ideas in the process. (A lot of ideas that we previously contemplated about implementing turned out to be likely to overwhelm the user's gaming experience and thus make it less fun.)

Hi David,

Thanks for your post and i'm glad that you can respond honestly.
My only issue with Caplab and this is my personal point. Graphically the game does now look better and the additions that have been added are great. Although I was hoping that caplab would engage and challenge me more with business today. My point been is that, when I play Caplab I kind of get to where i've got before which brings back fond memorys of Cap 2 but then it kind of reminds me why the game dosen't engage me as much now as it did then. For example I end up in a prominent position and buy companies but i've done this all before. This isn't a gripe at the game or anything but when I first played cap 2 it was new and I tried everything that you could to play the game but now I find myself in the same position but kinda knowing the answer before i've done it in caplab. I really need to know what future additions are intended for the game otherwise it's like playing cap 2 with better graphics. Again I think the work that has been done is great but I personally am expecting more from the game. I would love to hear of the ideas that were canned due to overwhelming the game, I also would love to know what additions would be added if the subscription was implemented.
Again if I was new to caplab it would be a great game like cap 2, but as a expereinced cap 2er Caplab dosen't add enough to keep me enthralled like cap 2 did.
On another note I get the feeling from the posts that i've read that people want to enact what the hear of in the news and whilst cap 2 did this back when it was made, business has moved on and I now I can't simulate what i've learned of business in 2012. This is my honest opinion and I hope it dosen't appear to come across negatively, I know this is only a game and fun has to be the most important part of any game, but a simulator does have to simulate the realities of business in this new buisness age. I'm really hoping that caplab could be used as a money stream for the creation of cap 3 with as many additions as possible, which could give me and i'm sure plenty of users out there the game that they really want. If this was the case I would probally pay for a subscription for that reason alone.

I'm looking forward to your reply as always David.

Hi baz, I understand what you said.

Towards that, firstly, I would suggest that 1) you take a look at this post http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... f=10&t=421 - some players did experience somewhat different gaming experiences in CapLab than Cap2 and 2) You may try the new version when it becomes available later this week (version 1.92)

Secondly, as the game's name Cap Lab implied, we are experimenting with different ways to entertain people. I would encourage you to participate in this kind of experiments when they become available and provide us with feedback. (e.g. http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... f=10&t=311)

It is our long term plan to keep experiment with different gameplay styles and let the ones that work sustain.
