Game crashes when using lockscreen

This has been an issue for a very long time, but I haven't seen any posts about this so here goes.
Whenever I play the game and I take a break and Windows locks the screen after a while of inactivity when I return and unlock the game crashes to desktop and gives this error:

VgaBuf::lock_buf() locking front buffer failed.
(DDERR_SURFACELOST)

Is there a solution to this other then not locking your screen? I use the latest version of Windows 10 currently.

You may try the borderless window mode.
