Product Customization

Post by buells »

I believe that in the current version of the game the AI COO will automatically upgrade manufacturing units delegated to them to use the latest technology. Is there a way to prevent them from doing this? I would like to be able to keep producing multiple versions of the same product with different tech levels so the COO will sell them at different prices.

Did you find the business strategy of producing multiple versions of the same product with different tech levels viable in the game?

If it is a viable strategy and it depends on the setting you requested to have a more coherent gameplay experience, then I will try to persuade the team to implement it.

And it will help me persuade the dev team if you could write a short walk-thru using this strategy, like what you did with your excellent piece of writing "Let's Play: The Berkshire Hathaway Approach".

I can't really tell if it is viable because it is pretty hard to implement right now. I expect that it is for certain products. I think there should potentially be something in the game that tells you ahead of time what percentage of the market for a given product in a given city has high price concern. Right now there is very little visibility into these mechanics until you dominate a market and see that you can't capture a certain percentage of it, sometimes even with the maximize market share sliders set to 100%.

I can try to play around with it a little more and see if I can make it work.

BTW that Berkshire Hathaway strategy could probably be much more akin to the real Berkshire Hathaway now. I'm not sure if the Insurance Company ownership counts toward control of subsidiaries w/ 75% share now or not. It might be interesting to hold most of your subsidiary shares in your insurance company. I guess minimally the insurers can hold the bonds.
