Pandemic as a disaster event (Digital age DLC)

Post by scubakandy »

Hi,

It's a little morbid but I was thinking about a pandemic event. It would be cool to see an event that lasts X amount of years. The result being a sharp increase in e-commerce sales, deep decrease in in-store demand, sudden population increase 9 months after pandemic start, etc. Not quite hashed out as an idea but I think with more input, it would be fun addition to the game! Changing your strategy, pivoting quickly to an online presence, drawing down your unprofitable firms, etc.

If there's already one, I haven't seen it. I've seen rioting and plagues. That's about it.

I agree.

But i think there should be more than just 1 event. We need like a list of possible random events and the dev can give them chances of happening. For example:
- Pandemic - as explain in this topic (plus - local epidemic in city X or global pandemic across the entire game world)
- Earthquake in city X - some buildings are destroyed, bussiness takes a hit, all NRF stop working, creating new buildings is forbidden for Y years, etc
- Flood in city X - less buildings destroyed, but farms stop working, roads are damaged, etc
- Political unrest in city X - all public buildings are closed, so HQ and office buildings stop working, damages to stores and factories, riots, etc
- Massive city-wide blackout - everything stops working for days
- Draught - farms take a huge hit, food shortages, water shortages
- Tsunami - damages to buildings near the sea/river
- Forest fires
- Animal/Crops decease
- Heat wave/Cold wave
- Tornados, tropical storms...

Each of these will have different impact - in matter of death toll, financial impact, damages to buildings, infrastructure, etc. And each will have different chances of happening in a given place.
Different types of industries will be affected as a result. For example: coup d'etat will affect stock prices, flood and quakes will affect transportation costs, blackout will affect production, decease on animals will affect food production, tornado or forest fire will halt natural resourse production, etc

Definitely worth having more events!
