Does COO Price Change Policy Supercede Price Synch?

Post by Yimmy »

David:

I use 9.1.16 with City Economic SIM DLC active. I have price synchronization option enabled for all firms. I also have hired a COO with price-changing policy activated.

While trouble-shooting my problem with the COO changing retail stores' obsolete products with more viable products, I discovered that the COO was able to set different prices for the same product in stores located in the same city. I thought price synchronization option would guarantee that all firms of the same type, in the same city, would sell the same products at the same price. I found this was not the case. The COO frequently changed the price of the same product in individual stores selling the exact same products in the same city.

Is this by design? SHould the COO be able to override/supercede the price synchronization option activated in the options menu?? (If this is not by design, am I the only one , to date, who has experienced this issue?)

If it is by design, can it be set so that the price synch option supercedes the COO price change policy?

If the COO can override the price synch option, the price synch option is irrelevant and provides no value once the COO is hired and the price change policy is activated. On the other hand, if price synch supercedes COO price changes, the COO can still change pricing of products; the only limitation would be that every retail store selling bread would sell the bread at the same price in New York City, but could still sell bread in Chicago for a different price.

For those players who would object to the price synch option overriding the COO price change ability, they can still choose to disable price synch with no loss of features. The reverse (and apparently current) situation where the COO neutralizes the option to have price synchronization leaves the player, who does wish to have price synchronization along with a COO to change some pricing to reflect varying economic conditions, with no viable alternative. (Although I think the COO policies are flawed and incomplete, the ability to change pricing does come in handy when you have hundreds of retail stores across many cities.)

Please be informed that price synchronization only responds to player actions of changing prices, as seen in the context-sensitive help.

David:

OK; I read "you" to be the plural form and was thinking that the COO was merely an extension of me/my staff. So I guess this means that price synchronization is temporary if price-changing policy is activated.

BTW: I MADE A MISTAKE REGARDING MY SECOND POST ABOUT THE COO AND CHANGING PRODUCTS. (I am capitalizing to ensue you notice this.)

I mentioned that the COO changed products on the camera phone before it was obsolete in the program. I thought I had seen the "obsolete" designation in the Manufacturers Guide for obsolete products. I discovered that i was wrong; the "obsolete designation was displayed in the "Products" listing, not the manufacturers guide nor the "product details" listing. (It might be a good idea to identify them as obsolete in those two places as well for consistency.) As such, the camera phone could very well have been obsolete when I noticed it had been swapped out by the COO.

Despite my mistake about where I saw the obsolete designation, my post about the COO changing obsolete products is still correct. Sorry for my mistake about the manufacturer guide.

How does “Never sell products below cost” option apply to the COO? Or price sync?

I believe that if the COO is managing prices, and it’s on aggressive mode, then it will try try to keep the total rating above the competition. But only in the stores where it can lower price, therefor price may become out of sync.

If I try to sync the price myself but the COO is active, prices will reset to what the COO thinks we should do and it’s above cost if the option is active.

For price sync to work, one must idle the COO in all the stores that sell the product first. Then apply the new price. Even if one store is managed by the COO, the price sync won’t stick in the stores with an Idle COO.
