Mod Bug - If Service Firm items are added they are in the game even when Service Firms = Off

Post by Stylesjl »

This is a bug that only occurs in Mods, if the mod adds items to a Service Firm then even when Service Firms = Off those items still appear in the Manufacturer's Guide (this problem does not occur in an unmodded game).

I have verified that this problem happens in the RealWorld and Magitek Mods (for example in the RealWorld the Pizza items appear even if you need a Pizzeria to sell them, which cannot be built if Service Firms = Off).

Save Game of this problem in Magitek.

I've forwarded this to the dev team. They will look into it.

The dev team replied that it is recommended that you exclude the service firm products from your mod because input items such as burger patty and burger buns will not be automatically removed, and it will create gameplay balance issues where the demands for these input items will be substantially less without hamburgers in the game.

The RealWorld actually takes a different approach as it has its own service products (as opposite to those carried forward from the vanilla) and the service products are designed in a way that they work with or without the service firm feature. You may download the RealWorld MOD source to take a look: https://www.listaviaggi.com/RW12.53.zip

Another note is that the vanilla service firm product content is intended to be available to users only when they have the Service Industry DLC (now the Experimental DLC) so it is advised that they are not included in mods that do not require the DLC to run.

Thanks, I will take a closer look at this. Thanks for sending me the source files as well, they are quite interesting to look at in how RealWorld was designed.

To assist you on this, I've updated the webpage about modding service firms: https://www.capitalismlab.com/mod/moddi ... ice-firms/

It now provides a clearer explanation with the addition of the following paragraph:

Mod Compatibility for Games without the Service Firms Feature:

When loading this mod without the Service Firms feature enabled, the game will automatically convert any service firms defined in the Buildings.DBF database into retail firms. This convenient feature allows modders to create a single database that is compatible with both players who have Service Firms enabled and those who do not, streamlining the modding process and increasing versatility.
