This is my first attempt at a MOD. It's not finished; if anyone could take the time to have a look and give some feedback good or bad, so I know if I'm going in the right direction.
Many Thanks

Re: First MOD Attempt
I have run it, looks good so far. Good ideas for products and their inputs and great imagery for them.
Would be good to introduce the changes that your mod makes. A basic summary from I can see is:
- New food items including Bacon, Sausage, Bap Bread.
- New Coffee items as well as snacks and beverages now being available for sale in a Coffee Shop.
Some things I also noticed are:
- You should have a saved Plan Layout for the farms (see here for how to do it: https://www.capitalismlab.com/improveme ... ries-mods/). Right now I have to create the layouts manually.
- I noticed that the food item Bread and Hamburgers have a negative profit margin so those products should have their prices raised or the input prices reduced.
- Some of the profits margins for many goods seem to be a lot higher than they should be such as Jeans, Leather Jackets, Toothpaste, Body Lotion, Shoes, Air Conditioning and Gold Rings (the problem is that the demand is much higher than the base game). Not sure what is going on there but take a look at an unmodded game and you will see that there is a huge difference in your mod (I don't know if it was intentional or accidental). These prices might unbalance the game. If you need a painless way to restore the old values I would suggest downloading the original base game Product_Types.dbf and then copying the lines of all products unrelated to food and replacing them in your mod so that you get the old demand/price values.
--
Keep going with it, the mod looks nice and would be interesting to have the food/snacks/coffee products expanded. Perhaps you could add more firms in future such as Candy shops, Pubs, etc.

Re: First MOD Attempt
Wow, thanks for that.
I've changed the toothpaste etc back to the original prices, no idea why they changed!
My objective is to have the complete Costa Coffee product range included.
Regard new Buildings...how do you change the building graphics to say a pub?
Was the music OK?
Again, many thanks

Re: First MOD Attempt
You can change the names of the buildings by adding an entry for them in Buildings.dbf. You can change the graphics as well by creating the folder in Images\Buildingsalpha117 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 27, 2024 9:22 am Wow, thanks for that.

I have not fully tested it though (I have only done it for new buildings).
Music is good, it is pretty chill in general. Good to see you making better use of this feature than I am

I have added this post viewtopic.php?t=10034 which outlines the process for modding existing building graphics.

Re: First MOD Attempt
Looks better now, there are a huge number of products in Costa Products now. Will need a lot of Cake/Coffee shops to sell all of them.
Some interesting choices on the R&D dates for certain products. I think Lattes existed before 1990 so I am not sure why they need to be invented in 1994. Or is this designed to add some challenges to the mod?
Some things about the pricing in this version I noticed:
- The Chocolate Twist and Pork Apple Roll both have a very high profit per citizen, over $100 or $200 per citizen. I suggest toning down the profit level of these, perhaps by raising the price of the Puff Pastry, which has a per citizen profit of only $4.
- Another really profitable item is the Breakfast Bap which seems a bit too high compared to the other snack items.
- I also noticed that other foods like Raisins and Pasta have very low levels of profit per citizen. These should probably be bumped up a bit, especially Pasta as I can't see it being used anywhere else.
- Hamburgers still have a -$100 profit per citizen, which makes them unable to be profitably sold.

Re: First MOD Attempt
No, it did not work. I am not sure why as I definitely downloaded the file and the speech is in the right place.
Also, on checking the scenario I noticed that while the objective unlocks all products, they are not locked in the first place. You will need to add some lines in the script to lock the products:
https://www.capitalismlab.com/scripts/script-locks/
You should also lock the other industries such as the Digital Age buildings, Real Estate, Media, etc.
So something like this:
Code: Select all
[LOCKS]
Product=All
Firm, Logging Camp
Firm, Mine
Firm, Oil Well
Firm, TV Station
Firm, Newspaper Publisher
Firm, Radio Station
Firm, Apartment
Firm, Commercial Building
Firm, Civic Building
Firm, Sports Facilities
[UNLOCKS]
Product=Costa Products

Re: First MOD Attempt
I also noticed a weird error when I tried to reload the scenario more than once. I have detailed the issue here:
