It is really annoying to have to workaround it with the constant loop of:
1) Buy your own tech with your own subsidiary
2) Inject the earned (transferred really) money back into the subsidiary
There should be a simple button to transfer techs for free or even an option to share selected techs automatically with selected subsidiaries.
Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free

I think it should be easier to transfer techs, but I don't think it should be for free for the same reason other transfers should not be free (helps to prevent potential manipulation).

Re: Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free
its not a problem to buy/sell techs between subs, if your sub aint 100% owned by your holding then it would be nice way to buy up a company to 75% take all techs for free and scam all the other shareholders... which certainly would love to see some cash for the techs.
also your sub has costs anyway for researching so you should pay em for taking the tech, if you dont you need to sink money in another way. so i dont think the dev team should waste time to find a way to allow tech for free between 100% subs but block for any companies someone else holds a single share
anyway i often own shares of sub with different companies or even with private cash so even if its free one day, it still would be blocked due to the shares not 100% owned by holding.
i can understand that it might be annoying to set up a new company and then trade all techs to em, but thats a once in a lifetime action unless you open all year around new companies just to give em the techs. yeah of course then this automatic give all techs to sub would be really helpfull.
actually i dont want all techs handed to my sub on setup of the company either

What manipulation?
OK, maybe free transfer between 90-100% owned subsidiaries?

Re: Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free
The issue is I have to regularly sell techs to my subsidiaries because of ongoing research race with competitors. All my game is a busywork of me swapping to subsidiaries, buying the techs (and my player avatar actually protesting when the price is too low...) and then transfering the money back to the subsidiaries via capital injection. It's cumbersome and not fun at all.

After purchasing 75% or 100% of a company, its quality should automatically go to the purchasing company, and so on. If we purchased another company, the qualities would be transferred automatically.
Re: Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free
The big case for subsidiaries is to make use of the CEO's expertise, which can double the research rate for a product group. You want to transfer that research to the main company and have to deal with a lot of micromanagement.
To avoid that, I'm letting the subsidiary run the factories for their products. Sadly, that also leads to micromanagement - adjusting the prices on the factories, so the subsidiary can break even. If I let the CEO set prices, I have to do constant capital injections or I'm losing price advantage in my retail stores. On top of that, when the subsidiary makes a big profit, the CEO demands salary increase, which quickly leads to more capital injections.
Any way I try, subsidiaries always lead to a lot of micromanagement which quickly puts me off the game. I believe the root of the issue can be solved if we can have persons with product expertise lead certain R&D centers.

Re: Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free
For free? No. But dramatically simplify the process? Yes please.
My situation:
Subsidiary that only focuses on budget versions of the product.
Parent company is doing all the research and is the leader in the market.
To keep the subsidiary focusing on the lower end of the market, I'm using product customization to create a version with lower tech.
To keep pace with the increase in tech, I'm repeatedly having to sell my tech for EVERY product to the subsidiary, bump the tech level for that customized product, then go to EVERY subsidiary manufacturing unit to bump their tech, just to keep pace. It definitely kills some of the fun.
BETTER:
Have a master sell list of all your techs, with the selected subsidiary's level noted next to it. Have a price toggle for each line, with an approval flag indicating if it will be accepted. Then bulk sell.
To further simplify, and allow this same situation without having to go through product customization, allow us to select what level of tech we want to transfer, instead of only allowing the full tech level to be sold. With this, you can have a subsidiary auto-upgrade their manufacturing tech levels without micromanagement. They'll always upgrade to whatever level of tech you've decided to provide.
BEST:
Allow for the bulk sell option.
Allow the option to select target quality levels for each product a subsidiary is selling. You can sell them your entire tech and they would only apply it sufficient to maintain that target level. If you want a product in the market that's a 70, they would constantly nudge up the tech as needed to maintain that quality rating. This would DRAMATICALLY reduce the tedious parts of owning both high end and low end consumers.

Re: Let us transfer techs between subsidiaries for free
Agree 100%. Make all assets transferable, not only Firms.
Ideally, R&D expense in any entity should be capitalized into intangible assets on the balance sheet and then depreciated over time. These assets (like any asset) should be able to be sold/transferred to any other group company at book value.
