Edit save file?
Is it possible to edit the save file? I would like to carry some stats from game to game to give some continuity.

No, it isn't possible to directly edit it. But if you want to keep difficulty settings then load the file, go back to the main menu and start a custom game. It should have the same difficulty settings as the save file.
