2nd batch of screenshots of Art Gallery UI for Billionaire Life DLC (previously called Wealth Spending DLC)

Post by David »

I'm delighted to share two new preview screenshots of the Art Gallery UI for the upcoming new DLC Billionaire Life DLC (previously called Wealth Spending DLC). The UI shows the painting's historical transaction prices and the appreciation value for the current owner.

Players can toggle between the two views by clicking the "Detailed Transactions" mode icon in the top-right corner of the window.

If the player owns the art gallery, they can set the painting's selling price, and the UI will show the markup percentage above the current market price.

The screenshot shows the painting's market price soaring from $28 million in 1990 to $302 million in 2017.

This illustrates that fine art's returns can outperform the stock market, positioning art collections as a highly effective strategy for wealth growth.

Any comments or questions are welcome.

Interesting idea, how does the art pricing system work? Is there just a tendency for prices to rise over time? Do price levels rise faster if the art is frequently traded at higher prices? I am also wondering if this will work like an auction system where multiple persons can try bidding for the same piece of art (if it is owned by the gallery), though perhaps for person to person trades (direct private sale) it could be a fixed price like the regular For Sale system for assets.

In general to avoid making the game too easy and to ensure that art isn't a guaranteed road to riches there should also be situations where art movements might fall out of favour and prices crash (but then maybe recover after a while).

realistically though when would anyone ever sell the art, unless you have other stuff to spend personal money on it very much feels like a buy and forget thing.

An interesting thing to add to the DLC perhaps is maybe a mechanism to potentially inject personal money into the company? It is already indirectly possible to do this by buying up shares in your own company(pushing the price higher) and then issuing shares to the public (public pays more money to the company than they otherwise would) but maybe some more direct method could be added to the DLC.

Perhaps there could be equity injection or direct share issuance to individuals? Basically instead of buying shares from the open market you just pay the corporation directly for new shares? That might be one way to use excess personal money.

Yes the only potential I can see is if the option to start multiple companies comes in so if you go bust you can sell your art to fund a new venture

Is this "DLC" just going to be a page where you can buy art?

Hey there, been going back into another CapLap binge, and saw this popping up.
This reminds me a little of the game Oligarchy, where buying and trading artworks, alcohol etc. had a tangible purpose, as it granted you reputation that opened up more business opportunities.
I concur with some previous concerns about private money not really having a use as of right now. Sure, you can use it to buy shares, but those pretty much always sell no matter what. Investing it in political parties can just as well be done by your companies, too, so it is a little redundant. Cash injections into privately owned companies, or the ability to start new ones from scratch definitely sound like they might freshen this up a lot.
Beyond just chasing highscores, this has enormous potential to tie in with the rest of the game.

These may only be considered general suggestions for the weight I'm looking for:
Inviting CEOs to your superyacht could make them offer you good share deals, or let you offer to buy (not currently for-sale) firms of companies they hold sway in; perhaps a CTO will even spill some tech level-worthy secrets that their company holds; philanthropy could let you attract certain talent from around the world, like starting an education program in a poor country and subsequently receiving fresh, low-level R&D personnel from those foreign lands.

My point being; If you want to add more weight to the player character, why not also give us more ways of interacting with the world and the other people in it, in ways that might actually provide new ways to benefit everyday operations.
