Semi-Product Branding

Post by TGLS »

This is a simple idea. In some products, brand rating at sales would also include the brand of the semi-product. For example, Intel advertises their CPUs, which probably has an effect on the sales of computers with Intel CPUs. Obviously, some would have not semi-product effect (i.e. steel).

I don't think it's simple. You realize that makes an exponential tree?

As it is, any single brand of CPU can vary in quality, which is stated to be taken into effect when computering brand rating adjustments.

My single desktop computer manufacture can theoretically make desktop computers from 30 different brands of processors. All 30 corporations can make computers from 30 different brands. So that's potentially 900 different desktops_with_specific_brand_CPU products to select from in a single city.

That would further increase if we also recognized the brand of electronic components in desktops ;) Fuzzy math says 27,000.

Of course that should never happen, but I hope it makes the point that this suggestion would add significantly to the number of existing product in any product list. That's too many products for me to deal with. I have limits.

Well, it's technically 31 different CPUs (The Seaport could be importing them).

Even still, it is possible that a very high figure could be reached anyway and I don't see how it could be that penalizing. The total brand rating of the computer would be shown to you, (10% from the CPU, 90% from the computer itself, electronic components are too general to have any effect). Besides, some farm products already get brand ratings which are ignored when producing. If marketing gets an expansion it should be possible to market it that way ("This cake was made with locally produced cocoa").

Early in the beta phase, I had suggested something similar whereby the brand of semi-products would carry over to finished goods as a proportion of the % the semiproduct contributed to the finished good.

However with the 100 brand cap introduced later, it made this not as useful
