Some improvements that could be made

Post by fred »

Hi, I have some suggestions to make on things that I noticed during my extensive play sessions with Capitalism Lab:

1. Make the costs for R&D different for every city. The costs for shops, factories and farms are all different in the various cities. Why is it not the same for R&D?
2. When you start a game with Inflation ON, you get a an HQ free of charge. In my opinion that is kind of an unfair advantage, because it greatly increases the value of your company. Make us pay for it :D !
3. When you start a game the average costs under stock exchange are not correct. It shows zero, when instead it should show 10 dollars per share. It seems as if I have gotten all the shares for free.

R&D costs are already different for every city as each city has a different wage rate, which affects the salary costs of your researchers.

R&D again
Which version did you play, david? :)
Seriously, I started playing the game with the beta release and the bug still appears even with the latest release version.
To recreate the bug, follow these steps:
1. Start a new game with 2 cities
2. Pause the game
3. Build one R&D in every city (including 9 working-units)
4. Fast-forward
5. Check firm income statement and corporate income statement
I tried it several times and not only once has there been a single dollar off despite the real wages being different.
The build costs are different but the operating costs are the same.

I asked the dev team and they told me that the R&D salary costs are the same for all cities actually.

They said that it was implemented that way for a reason - to prevent the situation where all companies set up R&D centers in the same city. They also said that this might change if
the following new feature in http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... f=14&t=848 is implemented in the future:

"Funding research projects in universities in the game. The success rate is low but successful research projects will give you a massive breakthrough in technology (like iPhone smashing the competition back then)"

I guess relocating to another city will mean having fresh employees and losing the experienced staff in the original city, which would mean drops in functional unit's levels. So it was not allowed.

I still think it's funny when I see half a house being driven down the highway.

I just can't imagine a steel mill going down the 405.
