I have been eyeing Cap 2 and CapLab. CapLab seems better, but only Cap 2 has a Tutorial.
I would normally go straight to the most recent verison of a game, and I do not want to buy both Cap2 and Caplab. I am a fairly advanced gamer, playing many wargames (example:GG War in the East, Civ V, Warlock, etc), and sims (SimCity, RR Tycoon) and 4x games (MoM, MoO, Distant Worlds).
Would I be able to get by in CapLab without the tutorial? Should I?
Can a new player go straight to CapLab?

You could try to go directly to Cap Lab but if you've NEVER played Capitalism before I would recommend you at least find a Capitalism 2 Manual. When I first tried playing the game I had to read the manual to get a understanding.
Maybe David (poke) can work out a package where you can obtain Capitalism 2 & CapLab in a bundle. You should reach out to them, sure they will work something out.
P.S. It's a great game, you should definitely buy it even if you have to learn via this forum & the Capitalism II user manual.

Re: Can a new player go straight to CapLab?
Thanks for the responses. I decided to do this in steps:
1) Download the demo, play tutorials.
2) If all good, buy Cap 2.
3) if all good, buy CapLab.
So last night I got the demo, played thru the 1st 2 Tutorials, liked it, then purchased Cap 2. I will restart and do all the tutorials and then play Cap 2 for a while. Once I feel that I have advanced enough, I will buy Cap Lab.
So, I get a good game that expands with my experience of the game, and the developers get 2 purchases instead of one. If I find that Cal 2 is enough, or I don't think I can handle the more advanced Cap Lab, well, they did get at least one purchase out of me.
