What do you mean by landscape?

If you are looking at 3D/isometric (ala Roller Coaster Tycoon) style maps I personally think this would be too big/costly to implement.

Topics have however mentioned that cities should be differentiated by climate for example, allowing only certain crops to be planted in a given city, that sounds like a more realistic feature to add.

Just a different layout. No 3D please!!! lol. Maybe some mountains. Small country cities etc. More like Simcity 2000

Simcity 2000 was similar to Roller Coaster Tycoon 2. They are both like 2.5D isometric view which like I said, would probably be a lot of work.

But perhaps 2.5D/3D maps might not be necessary, maybe we could just get some different textures in cities. So some areas will be grassy like now, others will be rocky (simulating mountains), snowy or sandy. I think maps should also generate based on location on the world map. Closer to the equator will be warmer and have more sand for example.

Simcity 2000 was way ahead of its time... released in 93... 7 years ahead of its time to be exact.
