List of minor bugs

Post by de1irium »

  • Media Firms monthly cost = setup cost in the Build Menu
  • Newspaper Publisher has "Market Share" instead of "Rating Points" (also when mouse hovering)
  • Advertising units create training cost but won't improve
  • Monthly Quantity Processed of the manufacturing unit is half. Take car for instance, it says it produces 15 but sells 30.
  • The game prohibits stock trading between the player’s company and a corporation exactly 50% owned as if subsidiary
Oddities
  • R&D Center costs won’t adjust to the wage rate. I guess that it avoids cheap R&D but that is incoherent.

Thanks for spotting the bugs. I've forwarded them to the dev team.

Here is an explanation from GPT4 about rating points vs market share for newspaper publishers:

Is it correct to use "rating points" for newspaper publishers?

You are correct that the term **"rating points"** is traditionally associated with TV and radio, where it measures the percentage of a potential audience reached by a broadcast. This concept is deeply embedded in broadcast media because of its focus on audience reach at specific times.

For newspaper publishers, using **"rating points"** may not be entirely appropriate in the traditional sense since newspapers are consumed differently compared to the real-time nature of TV or radio. However, the concept could potentially be adapted for newspapers in a broader, more figurative way. For example, it could represent the percentage of a total potential readership that engages with a newspaper over a set period (e.g., daily, weekly, or monthly).

Why "Rating Points" May Not Be Ideal for Newspapers:
1. Medium-Specific Origins: Rating points were designed for broadcast media and rely on time-based engagement (e.g., a specific program airing during a specific time slot). Newspapers don’t operate on the same temporal framework.
2. Audience Behavior: Newspaper readership is more flexible—people consume content at different times and in different ways (e.g., print vs. digital)—making it harder to apply the same audience measurement framework.
3. Existing Alternatives: Newspapers already have well-established audience metrics, such as **circulation figures**, **unique readers**, **impressions**, and **market share**, which are more straightforward and commonly used in the industry.

Could "Rating Points" Be Adapted for Newspapers?
Technically, yes, but it would need to be carefully redefined. For example:
- Digital Newspapers: Rating points could measure the percentage of a target audience that visits a newspaper’s website or app over a specific time period.
- Print Newspapers: It could represent the proportion of readers in a geographical area who engage with the newspaper regularly.

However, adopting the term might cause confusion since it’s not standard for newspapers and doesn’t align perfectly with how newspapers are consumed.

Conclusion:
While the **concept** of "rating points" could theoretically be adapted for newspapers, the term is not traditionally used in this industry and could lead to misinterpretation. **Market share**, **reach**, or other established metrics are more appropriate and familiar to both advertisers and stakeholders when discussing newspaper audiences. If you want to measure audience size or engagement, it’s better to use terms already recognized in the publishing industry.

Wow! I thought it was simply a typo. But that turns out to be very accurate, good job!

Here are additional ones:
In Firm Detail:
  • F7 does not open Layout Plan Library
  • Shift-- (minus sign above P) does not decrease price at 10X rate (that works with Shift-numpad -)
  • Ctrl-increasing/decreasing price with hotkeys (+/-) not working
Very minor
  • In Product Details, pressing Enter to go to the selling firm opens the firm in decription editing mod. That only happens when the firm it relates to was the previously selected.

Media Firms monthly cost = setup cost in the Build Menu
Could you please explain this in more detail?

The setup cost in the screenshot below is $148 million. Do you mean its actually monthly running cost is also $148 million in your game?

is also $148 million in your game?
Yes.

Macro Economy Realism was Off. I could obtain the correct numbers only by setting inflation to Inverse. When set to either Off or On, it seems to be mixed.

I tested it with Macro Economy Realism disabled but didn't encounter the issue. I looked at the TV station's income statement and its monthly expense was only in the range of $1 to $2 million. Could you please provide your save game for debugging?

Sure, just a fresh game with settings reset, no DLCs. I've not tested monthly expenses, I've noticed just the display in the menu.

Thanks for the fixes. Here are some more:
  • Options: SCREEN MODE: Changing mode with same resolution won't "live reload"
  • HQ: Human Resources Department or Chief Marketing Officer’s Office: Apply Selected keeps the Firms screen in Batch mode until Cancel is clicked
  • Hotkey Q to go back to previous firm not working when switching city until querying a firm in this new city
  • Ctrl increase/decrease does not produce the price change sound & not working with numpad
  • Expect R&D Center/Software Company to have their Duplicate button in the Relocate or Demolish window. One has to press Relocate, then Duplicate. They're the only firms to do that.
  • R&D Center won’t show products when hovering on city map
  • Balance Sheet: Stocks should go right after Cash for they are very liquid.
  • Applying Tech instatly upgrades stock stored in manufacturing unit (there is instant creation of value)
  • OneDrive: I have OneDrive and it has a Documents folder, but I've not enabled syncing with my local Documents (traditionnaly: C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents)... "My Games" folder seems confused and goes back to C:\Users\USERNAME\

Apartment-style windows (Mansions, Apartments, Commercial Buildings, Civics, Sports):
  • Cannot close when right-clicking ON the window. In the same conditions: pressing Q does not go back to the prev. firm. A few spots work ex.: right-clicking on the annual rent per square foot price and below.
  • Expect Ctrl-X to open Relocate or Demolish window

    Banking & Finance DLC:
  • Ctrl-G not opening Global Stock Market
  • Bank: Setting "Interest Rate - 1 Year Term Deposit" <= 0.50%: Negative interest rate on 6 months deposits

    Digital Age DLC:
  • Cannot put Internet/Software Companies for sale
  • Software Company: New Software Product: Computer OS: it is possible to program for no hardware (none checked). It has 0 user base... for ever.

    Light/Weird
  • R&D Center/Software Company: Upon completion, all units connected to a lead auto renew (if they were empty, they will auto hire people). Costs double, triple... My accountant and I aren't happy. ;)
