Natural ressource economic model doesn't work

Post by dancognac »

The reserve of a mine empty too quickly. We have no time to amortise our investisment. Usually natural ressource can be profitable on the long run with a lot of capital. But sometime my mines get empty before 2 years. A mine should last at least 10 to 15 years at a good production.

I agree, however within the context of the game it seems that we need money sinks and mines and other resources seem to be one of them.

I can make so much money from that resource (not just the selling of the resource but through the products that I can make and then sell) that it seems to me to be a fair trade off that it costs me 40 or 70M to buy the rights to the mine and have it be depleted in a short amount of time. After a while I stopped looking at the time of how long it lasted me when looking to whether or not i'll buy it, but rather the quantity in the mine (as well as quality obviously).

If somebody has some hard cold numbers on (for example) how many beds a timber farm can produce compared to how much all of those beds are going to sell for, I'd probably change my mind if the numbers showed it terribly unbalanced to where I'm putting out 50M for the timber farm but only making back 40M on my beds, or other lumber type of products.

I probably just don't play it like most, to me if I lose 5M here or there I don't usually care because I've usually got hundreds of millions in cash if not billions anyway.

Don't take me wrong, I'd love to be the Oil Baron in Cap Lab and buy up all the oil and just sell that at a huge profit although from what I read in another topic it's not really part of the game as being possible right now. Doesn't mean I would not like to see it changed, indeed I would as long as it doesn't unbalance the game in the opposite direction.

Will resources/commodity futures be added to the stock market? That is something that could possibly benefit the resource portion of the game.
