Hi, I'm working in a new MOD, and it looks like I'm having an issue creating a new Operating System.
Basically, I want to create 2 new Operating systems, so let's say one will work in Desktop/Notebooks, and the other will be for mobile devices, like tablets/smartphones.
When testing, I was able to go as far as being able to produce the new myOS operating system, in addition to the generic that the AI uses. I'm able to repackage it as a DVD, sell in retail. However, it doesn't show under the OS available in the market (Software Report).
By looking further into the Video Game Mod to see how it was achieve, it says "Note that the software class “Operating System” and software type “Game Console OS” defined in the files should not be modified as they connect with the game engine"
SO I take it the engine only recognizes [OS_PC] and/or [OS_CONSO] (either or both) as possible software type codes for OS under CL_OS_PC
class in Software_type.DBF? or is still possible to create other type of OSs?
any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Operating System

Re: Operating System
The operating system currently only supports [OS_PC] and [OS_CONSO].
The dev team has been working on a Smart Phone Industry Content Pack for Digital Age DLC. The dev progress has been slow as there were various game design bottlenecks that need time to experiment with different solutions. The good news is that some progress has been made this year, although several design issues still need to be overcome. Eventually, it may evolve into a DLC Smart Phone DLC and support [OS_MOBILE].

I also just posted the above updated to this thread.

Re: Operating System
Hi David, thank you. That DLC would be great, hopefully it is released soon.
Since a custom OS can't be created is it possible to mod the default one in the following way:
I research/create an OS, let's call it MY-OS and the AI creates AI-OS. I would like to link 100% of the COMPUTER/Notebooks I manufacture to use MY-OS, and allow other to buy as well, so that MY-OS has immediately the user base compared to the units sold from my computer factory?
I chatgpt an answer as follows:
[OS_PC]
COMPUTER, NIL
NOTEBOOK, COMPUTER
LinkageWeight=100
Exclusive=1
Does that make sense to achieve my goal? I tried but it doesn't seem to be working, I still have a low OS userbase despite having a lot of computer units sold. Let me know.
PS: I had to create a 3rd account for the forum because my previous login info won't work and can't reset it, reset email is never received (i checked spam folder)

You could view Operating_Systems.txt which has the following content.
The LinkageWeight=100 and Exclusive=1 provided by ChatGPT are actually not valid script commands (AI hallucination).
