CapLab Post-Release Beta V2.4.05 full version installer

Post by David »

Capitalism Lab Post-Release Beta V2.4.05 full version installer has been released.

To install it, download it from http://www.capitalismlab.com/account/do ... _beta.html (login required) and run the installer.

(update: the installer has been updated to v2.4.05 with a number of bug fixes. The download link is the same.)

Please note that this is an update containing a considerable number of new features and improvements that may be prone to bugs. You are advised to download this version only if you do not mind testing a beta version.

(Save game files from older versions are not compatible with this new version.)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

New Feature
1) On the Load Script menu, there is a new option for choosing the difficulty level for the script game.

When enabled, the competitors' start-up capital, aggressiveness, and expertise level are reduced by one notch. Competence of local competitors is also reduced.

2) Use the new features in the headquarters to:
i) set a new advertising budget to all of your advertising units or selected ones
ii) set a new training level to all of your firms or selected ones.
(See this web page for details: http://www.capitalismlab.com/headquarters.html)

3) Auto save frequency modifier at Script.
See this web page for details: http://www.capitalismlab.com/script---s ... rules.html

4) There will be a slider allowing you to more precisely request your COO to set prices according to your wish. It ranges from "Maximize Profit Margin" to "Maximize Market Share", or "Balanced".

"Maximize Profit Margin" - Maximize profit margins by raising prices at the expense of market shares and capacity utilization rates

"Maximize Market Share" - Lower prices to gain market shares at the expense of profit margins.

"Balanced" - Balance market shares and profit margins and set prices sensibly.

(see: http://www.capitalismlab.com/enhanced-m ... icies.html)

5) New Stock Market filter interface – when you are playing a game with a considerable number of AI companies, you may find the new filter buttons useful. The new filter interface are situated at the top of the stock market screen, which include the following buttons:

Owned - Only show companies in which you own shares.
All - Only show all stocks.
Consumer - Only show companies that sell consumer products.
Tech - Only show technology stocks.
Real Estate - Only show real estate stocks.
Media - Only show media stocks.
Investment - Only show companies whose main business activities are investing into other companies.

Improvements:
1) Improved the "select supplier" window by showing the products’ retail market shares, based on this suggestion:
http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... 9b42#p7333

2) On the Persons report, there will be a new button called [My Staff Only] allowing you to toggle the display to show only your staff.

3) The game now uses compression for save game files, resulting in significantly smaller save game file sizes. Saving and loading games will also take less time if the harddisk’s access speed was a bottleneck.

4) Made an attempt to improve the Batch Switching Supplier functionality (http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... =10&t=1690)

5) Display freight cost breakdown on the Purchasing unit. Hover the mouse over the “cost+freight” display and the game will now pop up a box showing the freight cost breakdown.

6) More than 30 new cities have been added to the game, including a good number of notable European cities.

7) Improved the algorithm for calculating the land cost, which now takes into account revenues from neighboring firms.

8) We have touched up the R&D firm interface for improved readability.

9) A new icon for setting the manager of your firm. (Previously you have to click on the person portrait to do so. Now there is a separate icon for this function.) And clicking on the person portrait will open the Persons report at the Information Center instead.

10) On the firm detail screen, if the firm is part of an AI company, there will be new icons for indicating whether you own shares in the company. If it is your company’s subsidiary (you own more than 50% of the company’s shares), there will be an icon indicating this as well.

11) “Inflation Auto Adjust” options are set to on automatically when a new headquarters building is built.

Bug Fixes:
Please see the list of bug fixes at http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... =10&t=1786

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Please note that this is a Post-release Beta version and it will install on a different program folder than the normal Release version.
For more info about Post-release Beta versions, please read: http://www.capitalismlab.com/forum/view ... =10&t=1265

Beta versions are unstable versions which are meant for user testing. You may still run your normal release version of the game, after installing the post-release version, as they are installed separate folders and have separate program EXEs and icons. So you encounter problems with this beta version, you may run your normal Capitalism Lab release version instead (the latest release version is 2.2.08.)

All the government buildings as well as shipyard goods are blue instead of grey.
Also land price in the beginning is so low, are government buildings properly taken into account?

Does it also affects customer traffic in retail stores? In my current game i have supermarket surrounded by other supermarkets, but it has customer traffic = 15 only. Before V2.4.00 it would be at least 60. Will it increase and decrease based on my firm revenue?

Yes, it will increase and decrease based on your firms' revenues.

The new algorithm takes into account neighboring firms' revenues, as opposites to just the number of firms in the older versions.
