I get this error when using a custom layout in a factory that has no products set up.
I generally pick my suppliers when setting up factories manually so I just have 3 empty layouts saved with 1,2 and 3 inputs.
This worked in the previous beta.
If the custom saved layout does have products filled in it works.

This bug will be fixed in v3.0.02.
FYI, for this type of layout, you can actually use [Wildcard Factory Plans] which is more convenient. (You can select it from the buttons at the top of the Layout Plan library interface. )
