In light of the 33 hours I put in last week primarily playing the game and looking for bugs as well as the fact that each new patch with previous save games I propose that out of respect for beta tester time. You either make an additional effort to make previous same games compatible or you hold back new patches until a major bUS is found or there's more than say 5-6 minor fixes.
This game is very complex (has a lot of depth) and it takes time to fully play and identify issues. It also becomes frustrating when we report bugs in a directly previous patch and are told to try it in the new version as if our save games will magically load in the new version.
I don't know what the release time linen looks like but if this is feasible at all I ask that this occurs. if this is not feasible due to a fast approaching release time line, active beta testers in consumption for their time should get the DLC for free because 33 hours is worth a lot more than 9.99.

While I understand where you're coming from as it can be frustrating to loose a save after just getting it all set up and running, you don't have to apply minor updates until your own chosen time. That is part of beta testing; you're playing an incomplete game that changes during its development. This in no way means you should get the release version for free. You're volunteering your time. You don't have to play beta versions if updates/revisions and having to start over detract from your enjoyment of the game.
Cap2 went so long with no updates past the one patch for the retail version. It is nice that David and the devs are so active with Caplab and do address issues the community discovers. It is very rare to find a game company so responsive, especially a game in which the market is not that large. I think they do a fairly good job of making saves compatible with updates for as many revisions as they can. When they first started updating Cablab, every little update killed your save, for beta and retail versions.
I agree it would be nice if they could work toward making saves last across updates, even the more major ones. I don't know the limitations they face in doing that but it would be a nice goal and welcome change. personally I don't mind, as long as the game launcher doesn't force you to download the update, I have 2 copies of game client, 1 is patched to latest version, the other is a few versions old but with more time spent on it.

i usually wait a few days befoe i apply the patch especially when i do longterm surveys on the A.I.'s, have notes in a spreadsheet for any issue encountered (seperate columns for seperate game versions) while playing, if the issue still exists after i patched i gonna mention it on the website, else i just forget about it.
sure its annoying that most of the time saves cant be used anymore after you patch, but well thats why its called beta testing to hammer out the bugs and get a smooth game, therefore its good to have many patches especially as you can decite whenever you wish to apply the patch, and the fixes are still being tested by others while you can take a break from testing and enjoy your current game.
