Overall Rating explained

Post by BuySellBuySell »

Hello everybody

Could someone explain to me how the overall product rating works. As you can see in the screenshot the local ratings are poorer than mine but the overall is much higher!?

(34) is negative 34 not positive 34. Your overall rating is 32 - (-34), that is 66 more than the local overall rating. Using parentheses to indicate negative number is common in accounting, so it's easier to see and not miss contra amounts.

Oh, I see.

So does that mean I can compete on market share if I have negative 33?

And thanks for the quick reply.

I believe you can sell at any overall rating you like. Even lower than the local overall rating. Just that they won't sell much (and sometimes its the right call, if your production cannot handle the demand, you might make more profit that way). And overall rating is just a guild line (but normally negative overall rating is bad, unless brand is not important in some cases). And if you want to build your brand, it's better be at least higher than average, and usually +10 to +20 than local (otherwise it would take too long, thus too expense). But if a product is very sensitive to price (high price concern), like most frozen meats, than it's better to aim at competing with local price, than local overall rating. Also some goods just need a lot higher overall rating regardless, (some electronics, frozen lamb? and doll, for some reason). If something that has high brand concern, than it's the other way around, it's probably better to build up the brand first, before selling on the market, otherwise you have to drop the price pretty low to get a decent market share.

And be careful about Socks, most of the time the limiting factor isn't production or retailing at all, but the source Wool. If the source Wool doesn't come from seaport, remember to buffer livestock farm produced Wool in storage units during off season (warehouses are good, but not always necessary, if you can buffer socks or wools in a factory's storage units is also fine). Otherwise you will see a lot of fluctuation in sales.
