Suggestions for improving the UI the alert system

Post by David »

There are suggestions for expanding the alert system to incorporate reminders and custom alerts.

The current alert system doesn't show a list of alerts and is inadequate for handling a large number of alerts. Therefore the first thing we need to consider is how to improve the existing UI the alert system so that it will be manageable when there are many alerts to process.

Which of these two suggestions for improving the UI the alert system do you like better?

1) A window-based alert system like the goal window. Basically you click on an alert on the window to go the location associated with the alert. The Alert icon on the bottom-left menu bar will be retained. You can click on it if you just want to see the next Alert, instead of choosing one from the list on the window.

2) Another approach is to show the alerts in a display format like the News Log (it can be opened by hot key 'v'), which is not window-based. It can be opened by right-clicking on the Alert icon on the bottom-left menu bar whereas left-clicking will attend the next alert.

I think the Window Alert is probably the best approach for this. I suppose though it may also be worthwhile looking into reducing the number of alerts for large and complex business empires (in particular the huge number of R&D Alerts when you have lot of R&D Centres).

a new window for sure, one that i can just close and see no alerts at all if i want too.

(and please make the city goal alerts go there instead of interrupting what i am doing, please, please.

Similarly send all the new products stuff there.

I would suggest tabs for New Products, Research, Goals, Reminders (if that does get added), Investments (dividends/Share purchases), etc etc

With the option to be able to set specific types of event pausing game (or not) as preferred.

Which city goal alert? Could you send a screenshot of it?

These 2, would be far better in the goals window, instead of kicking you out of whatever window you are looking at.

Actually it is the goal accomplishment window that takes the focus from other windows. So even if changes are made and new goals are added to a goal window without a popup window, you will still see the goal accomplishment window which will close the window prior to it.
