Self-ownership (kind of)

Post by Potato_capitalis »

Hi y'all,

I've been playing Cap. Lab for many years now, but it's actually the first time I'm sharing something with the community :D

In one of my playthroughs I've managed to create a kind of self-ownership of my company named Generale through the Insurance Company (as shown o the picture attached).

It really gives you an idea why it is generally prohibited for companies to own its own shares. It created a loop of self fulfilling prophecy, where each 1$ of Generale earnings gave a 1$ of Generale Insurance earnings, which gave 1$ of Generale earnings, which gave... You get the idea, generally a multiplication of the same 1$ through the P&L over and over again.

The only problem were taxes (as always :D ). As it was mentioned by David some time ago, Insurance companies are taxed in the game, even if earnings were not yet realized. Although it is unrealistic in my tax jurisdiction, it is becoming much more familiar concept in the world. So to avoid being punished by tax authorities with a 500 bilion bill, I've setup a city named Tax heaven with 0% CIT.

Results are quite ridiculous. The sale of 5% of Generale's shares could have given me so much money that I could straight up buy all the competition and still have $ XXXM.

To make it clear I'm not complaining about it and don't even want it to be fixed (that is why I don't describe how it was setup, which was not easy at very least, but still was done only using in-game mechanics). Just wanted to share it with the community :)

Although I feel like the game lacks key aspects of the modern business, I've been enjoying it very much for years. It's already very nice, but hopefully it will get even better!

I don't think the game lets you buy shares in a parent company via the insurance company.

When I try to buy my own shares:

When I try to buy my shares through a subsidiary:

I am not sure how you were able to do this (even turning off Alternate Stock Sim doesn't let me do it) but it looks like it might be a bug as in real life that would be illegal to do.

Still quite fun to see it happen though.

Actually, you can buy your own shares with the insurance if you first sell all of yours and then rebuy afterwards

I managed to recreate the issue see the screenshot:

that reminds me of another "bug" where you can buy shares of some random company from your insurance with your character and vice versa up to 50% of the total shares which makes the value grow artificially

It turns out you can buy shares in your Parent Company via a Subsidiary's Insurance company as long as you sell all of your own person's shares. I have created a save game with an example:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eJCTRh ... sp=sharing

In this case my subsidiary has an insurance company and that insurance company has purchased shares in my parent company. But only as long as my player character owns no personal shares in the parent company.

I think it should be prohibited, the 'Parent' company should count the higher level parent companies even if I have no personal ownership.

Well that's nice you guys figured it out and now it's getting fixed  Just kidding. Truth to be told, the game becomes very boring after using such an exploit.
